What killed England?

Would any of us consider ourselves Communist supporters? I know I wouldn't. However, I know I have bought into this idea. In fact, I was taught it in my youth that the government would support our family; both of my parents worked for the government and I was taught that the government would always be there to take care of us as though we were too weak to take care of ourselves. *edit* Both my parents were taxpayers. But to clarify, they lived in the attitude that they couldn't take care of themselves or our family. Ugh! *end edit* Sorry Mom and Dad, but you have it all backwards.

'The Proper Role of Government', by Ezra Taft Benson:

“England was killed by an idea: the idea that the weak, indolent and profligate must be supported by the strong, industrious, and frugal – to the degree that tax-consumers will have a living standard comparable to that of taxpayers; the idea that government exists for the purpose of plundering those who work to give the product of their labor to those who do not work. The economic and social cannibalism produced by this communist-socialist idea will destroy any society which adopts it and clings to it as a basic principle – ANY society.”

How many of us believe that the government should take from the rich people and give it to the poor people?
